Framed Print of HMS Kent in the Indian Ocean
Royal Navy Type 23 frigate HMS Kent is pictured during counter piracy operations in the Indian Ocean.
HMS Kent is one of the newest of the Type 23 frigates within the Royal Navy arsenal. Built by BAE Systems Scotstoun Shipyard on the Clyde, she was launched on 27 May 1998 by Princess Alexandra of Kent.
After a most successful visit to Libya, HMS Kent headed north east to Souda Bay, Crete for equipment trials and further training prior to her transit through the Suez Canal.
The Ships Company were able to enjoy some shore leave in Crete with fuel and provisions also taken in preparation for several weeks at sea on counter piracy patrol.
On 15 Apr 13 HMS Kent headed south through the Suez Canal, shortly after that she conducted a handover from HMS Northumberland and officially assumed Op Kipion duties.
