EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the mighty HMS Bulwark, a Landing Platform Dock (LPD), as it took part in an operational tasking off the coast of Southern Iraq. During its time in this region, the ship played a crucial role in supporting various missions and providing essential resources. One of the key tasks assigned to Sea King Mk4s from 845 & 846 Naval Air Squadrons was carrying out multiple jobs during their tours at Basra International Airport. However, on this particular day, they had the privilege of visiting HMS Bulwark, one of the Royal Navy's newest ships. This LPD served as a landing platform for other aircraft operating in Southern Iraq and supplied much-needed aviation fuel to extend operational flying tasks. As HMS Bulwark prepared to sail back to the UK after months of operations along the Iraqi coastline, it also made a stop at Umm Qasr port. Here, several passengers were picked up by the Royal Navy who trained members of the Iraqi Coastal Defence Force. The image beautifully captures both strength and unity as these naval forces work together towards a common goal. It serves as a reminder of their dedication and commitment while showcasing some of Britain's finest military assets deployed overseas.
