Typhoon Jet Lands at RAF Northolt for Olympics Security Exercise
Pictured:
A Royal Air Force Typhoon jet arrives at RAF Northolt, West London, ahead of an Olympics air security exercise.
Typhoon fighter jets arrived at RAF Northolt today (Wednesday 2 May) to take part in a major military exercise to test security for the forthcoming Olympic Games.
The arrival of the jets which heralds the first time fighter planes have been stationed at RAF Northolt since World War 2 marks the start of specialist training which will result in increased flying activity over London and the Home Counties.
Codenamed Exercise Olympic Guardian, the eight-day exercise will put airmen, soldiers and sailors through their paces in the skies over the south east. The exercise runs from 2-10 May and it is likely that people will notice an increase in highly visible air activity at peak times (particularly on 5 and 6 May).
The Air Security Plan for the Olympic Games builds on the Royal Air Forces existing defence of UK airspace, which includes round-the-clock radar surveillance and Typhoon fighters held at high readiness every day of the year

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, a Royal Air Force Typhoon jet gracefully touches down at RAF Northolt in West London. The powerful aircraft has arrived to participate in an Olympics air security exercise, aimed at testing the military's preparedness for the forthcoming Olympic Games. This momentous occasion marks the first time since World War 2 that fighter planes have been stationed at RAF Northolt. Codename Exercise Olympic Guardian, this eight-day training exercise will put airmen, soldiers, and sailors through their paces in the skies over the southeast region of England. As a result, there will be increased flying activity over London and its surrounding areas during peak times throughout May 2-10. The Air Security Plan for the Olympic Games builds upon the Royal Air Forces' existing defense of UK airspace. With round-the-clock radar surveillance and highly ready Typhoon fighters year-round, they ensure comprehensive protection against any potential threats. As spectators eagerly anticipate witnessing world-class athletes compete on British soil during the upcoming Olympics, it is reassuring to know that our armed forces are diligently working behind-the-scenes to guarantee a safe and secure environment for all participants and attendees alike. This awe-inspiring image serves as a reminder of both our nation's rich history and its unwavering commitment to safeguarding major international events like these games.
