100 years of the RAF
Pictured is a very early example of an iconic aircraft.
Spitfire Mk I (K9795) of 19 Squadron, based at Duxford in Cambs, in flight. Image dated 31 October 1938.
The squadron was the first to receive the Spitfire in August 1938 and this early aircraft is fitted with the original two-bladed wooden propellers flat cockpit canopy.
The 19 painted on the tail was removed soon after this picture was taken.
*Some of these images have had some dodging and burning done and have been retouched to remove detritus and dust and scratch marks only*
