EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures a piece of history from the early 1930s, showcasing an advertisement for Navy Cut Medium Cigarettes. The rectangular counter card is meticulously crafted with a glossy finish and slight padding, adding to its allure. In the center, a clean-shaven sailor leans through a porthole, facing right and proudly holding a pack of Medium cigarettes in his left hand. His hatband bears the inscription "H Ms EXCELLENT" exuding an air of prestige. The attention to detail extends to the bottom right corner where we find the iconic sailor in a life-buoy trademark. The card's text boldly states "Players // Please // Its the Tobacco that Counts" emphasizing their commitment to delivering exceptional quality tobacco products. On the reverse side of this remarkable artifact lies practicality - a support allowing it to stand upright and even a hanging loop for display purposes. A handwritten note accompanies this treasure, dating it back to 1932-33. This image not only serves as an advertisement but also offers us insight into advertising techniques used during that era by John Player & Sons, one of Nottingham's renowned tobacco companies. It stands as both an artistic representation and historical documentation of our city's past commercial endeavors without mentioning any specific commercial use or intentions behind it.
