Royal Marine LCAC(LR) Hovercraft Landing on a Beach
Picture shows a Royal Marine LCAC(LR) hovercraft landing on a beach during the Carlyon Bay Wader Exercise in Cornwall.
As part of a wader package, 3 Commando Brigade along with 4 Assault Squadron Royal Marines (4 ASRM), 29 and 24 Commando today conducted exercises using landing craft, hover craft and a Royal Air Force Chinook helicopter currently based on HMS Illustrious.
The training happened in Carlyon Bay near St. Austell, Cornwall with civilian onlookers.
The LCAC (L) (R) is a direct replacement for the LCAC (L) currently in service with 539 Assault Squadron Royal Marines. The craft is required to operate in a hostile marine environment in extreme temperatures. It may be deployed for several months with very limited maintenance support facilities. The primary role of the LCAC (L) (R) is as an air-portable, fully amphibious craft capable of the high speed movement of 16 fully equipped troops and a crew of 2 over water, ice, mud, marshland and beach

The print captures the awe-inspiring sight of a Royal Marine LCAC (LR) hovercraft gracefully landing on a picturesque beach during the Carlyon Bay Wader Exercise in Cornwall. The image showcases the power and versatility of this incredible amphibious craft, which is a direct replacement for its predecessor currently in service with 539 Assault Squadron Royal Marines. As part of a comprehensive wader package, 3 Commando Brigade, along with 4 Assault Squadron Royal Marines (4 ASRM), 29 and 24 Commando, conducted various exercises utilizing landing craft, hovercrafts, and even an impressive Royal Air Force Chinook helicopter stationed on HMS Illustrious. Taking place at Carlyon Bay near St. Austell in Cornwall, this training session attracted the attention of curious civilians who were fortunate enough to witness these military maneuvers firsthand. The LCAC (LR) is specifically designed to operate efficiently in hostile marine environments under extreme temperatures while requiring minimal maintenance support facilities. Its primary function is to transport up to 16 fully equipped troops and two crew members swiftly across water bodies as well as challenging terrains such as ice, mud, marshland, and beaches. This photograph serves as a testament to the unwavering dedication and skill displayed by our Armed Forces personnel who continuously train rigorously to ensure their readiness for any mission or operation they may encounter.
