EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the ethereal beauty of the Northern Lights as they dance above the HMS Ocean's Flight Deck. Taken during a Cold Weather Amphibious Warfare Training in the stunning fjords of Northern Norway, this image captures nature's breathtaking phenomenon, the Aurora Borealis, against a backdrop of a starry night sky. HMS Ocean, proudly serving as the Royal Navy's largest warship, ventured 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle to participate in Exercise Cold Response alongside the Norwegian Armed Forces. In December 2009, amidst this multinational exercise aimed at enhancing amphibious capabilities, LA (Phot) Bernie Henesy seized an incredible moment when these vibrant lights illuminated the ship. The Northern Lights hold an almost mystical allure and are considered one of nature's most awe-inspiring spectacles. Their shimmering hues paint an otherworldly canvas across Norway's arctic atmosphere. This photograph not only encapsulates their enchanting beauty but also symbolizes HMS Ocean's resilience and adaptability in extreme conditions. As we gaze upon this mesmerizing scene, we are reminded of both our planet's extraordinary wonders and our armed forces' dedication to training and readiness. The juxtaposition between man-made machinery and natural wonder serves as a testament to humanity's ability to coexist harmoniously with its environment. LA (Phot) Bernie Henesy has masterfully captured this fleeting moment for us all to admire—a reminder that even amid military exercises and strategic operations lies profound beauty waiting to be discovered by those who dare
