Snow in Whitehall 2010

A Guardsman from The Life Guards stands on sentry at Horseguards Parade Ground, London during a cold winters morning.
He looks out towards the Guards Memorial, also known as the Guards Division War Memorial, on the west side of Horse Guards Road, opposite the Horse Guards Parade Ground.
The Life Guards are the senior regiment of the British Army. Just before the Restoration of King Charles II, a Royal Mounted Bodyguard was formed in Holland from eighty Royalists who had gone into exile with The King after the Battle of Worcester in 1651

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this print titled "Snow in Whitehall 2010" we are transported to a cold winter's morning at Horseguards Parade Ground in London. Standing tall and resolute on sentry duty is a Guardsman from The Life Guards, the esteemed senior regiment of the British Army. Dressed in his ceremonial clothing, complete with a plumed helmet and great coat, he gazes out towards the magnificent Guards Memorial across Horse Guards Road. The scene is transformed by a blanket of snow that covers every surface, creating an ethereal atmosphere. The icy landscape reflects the dedication and commitment of these brave soldiers who stand guard regardless of weather conditions. Their unwavering loyalty to their duty is evident even amidst freezing temperatures. As we admire this striking image captured by Harland Quarrington, we can't help but appreciate the historical significance behind The Life Guards' formation just before King Charles II's restoration. This regiment carries with it centuries of tradition and honor. This photo serves as a reminder not only of the beauty found within London during wintertime but also pays tribute to all those who have served in the Household Cavalry Regiment throughout history. It captures both the serenity and strength embodied by these non-identifiable personnel as they protect our nation with unwavering resolve.
